I can’t believe they’re still texting me this afternoon, incredulous at what was stated last night, which was just blunt honesty.

Some dudes just need to grow a pair. They’ll say that they don’t want to be coddled, but their behavior says otherwise. Actions constitute our character, after all, not long-winded monologues or insults to my intellect about how I should perceive them.

My friends get so bitter and say that I never listen after explicating xx problems, when they’re the same ones who have dipped out of their therapy sessions half-way in after complaining about “depression,” and always retaliate when I ask them, apparently, the right questions that manage to induce such painful responses, that include, “Fuck you/ you’re not listening/ why the fuck does that matter?”

People always want their pains to dissipate without working on them, but like a relationship, or a job, or your education, it doesn’t work like that.

You’re not going to meet a person who represents a white-picket fence one day who’ll manage to steer you away from the pain of your parent’s divorce, or your mother’s once-in-a-blue-moon stint with meth, or elevate your self-worth…

or wake up one day and poof! It’s gone.

Even though the human adult is capable of explicating such fallacies as, “Yes! We are adults. We are capable of making rational decisions and maintaining our emotions,” they often manifest in volatile ways, and always…

Defense mechanisms are as clear as day.

When my ex-boyfriend calls on Skype late at night and tells me that he wants to describe his “actions” without relating it to “emotion,” and the “clinical” complications that he has with a 19 yr old girl,

I always ask him to tell me about his parents’ divorce, but he’ll never do it. He’ll never talk about what it’s like to be a vulnerable 15 yr old when your parents are going at it and how his father is always berating him, or even attempt to analyze how it relates to his current complication with clinging onto a woman with half of the confidence/ determination of his former partner (a handicap which he chastises), or why he doesn’t have the confidence to apply for the last 3 classes of his bachelors, or examine his defense of strongly implying it’s everyone’s fault but his own inability to follow his own convictions or rectify his life.

If you want that decent livelihood, you put yourself on the plate for it and PROVE to me that you have earned my recommendation/ neck on the line for a gig you want.

If you want that respect that a bachelors is going to obtain, you go out and finish your damn degree.

If you want a partner who fulfills all of the facets that you value, you earn it and relinquish the crutch.

If you want all of your psychic pains to ease, start by relinquishing your hubris and meditate on all of the necessary questions, instead of wasting my time.

… and this was the boy who once told me, “You are in control of your own life! You just have to get over it.”

Well certainly, I got over it. Too bad he hasn’t.

It is never the conclusions that they fear because those are just cursory accusations. It’s always the questions that they recoil from.

Who are they trying to fool but themselves?

Their problems are never my problems, but often, the manifestations of their problems become everyone’s problem, the irony of which is that they never acknowledge it!
